Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can I be treated at London Lauriston Clinic if I live overseas or if I am not a UK resident?

Yes, London Lauriston Clinic is a private outpatient clinic providing treatment to patients from the UK and abroad.

  • Do I have to have private medical insurance to be treated at London Lauriston Clinic?

No, you do not need to have private medical insurance to be treated at our clinic.

  • Will I need a GP referral to be able to see a consultant or have treatment at London Lauriston Clinic?

No, you do not need a GP referral letter to be able to see one of our consultants as you can self refer. However, please note, you will probably have to pay for your treatment even if you have medical insurance in place.  A letter of referral is always useful, but it is not a mandatory requirement. If you have private medical insurance, your insurer may require a GP referral. We advise you to contact your insurance company first.  We have GPs in house at LLC; so if you require a GP referral, one of our GPs may be able to help.

  • What happens upon arrival at the clinic?

When you arrive at London Lauriston Clinic at 34 Great Titchfield Street, our receptionists will welcome you and check if your registration form has been completed. They will inform our clinical staff of your arrival, who will then follow the consultant’s recommendations and perform any relevant assessments or tests prior to your consultation.

  • What happens during my first consultation?

Your consultant or GP will discuss your relevant problem and enquire about your medical history, followed by a thorough examination. To be able to assist with the diagnosis of your condition, your consultant/GP may request several diagnostic tests – for example, blood tests, ultrasound, eye tests. Some conditions may be treated immediately, so please ensure that your medical insurance company has authorised any diagnostic tests as well as potential treatment, where possible.
If a follow up consultation or further investigations are required, your consultant will indicate this on the treatment plan / notes.  Following your appointment, the consultant will write to your GP/referring doctor as well as to you. On your registration form you will be asked to specify who should be getting the copy of your medical report apart from yourself, and we will follow your request.

  • What happens at the follow up consultation?

At the follow up consultation, your consultant will discuss the results of any tests you have had done.  The Consultant will then recommend a potential treatment and provide you with all information necessary for you to make a decision.  Please feel free to ask any relevant questions regarding your condition and treatment.

  • What if I need any medication?

Our consultants may prescribe medication (including tablets, insulin etc) to treat your condition.  We have an in-house pharmacy where we can dispense any relevant medication and supply repeat prescriptions, as prescribed by your consultant. External UK-based private prescriptions are also accepted (excluding controlled drugs).  You can also place orders for medication by sending an email to pharmacy@llclinics.co.uk.

  • How much will it cost?

Your consultant’s secretary will provide you with an estimate of consultation fees and costs of any other investigations which may be needed. The amount quoted is usually for a consultation only however our staff can provide you with the costs of any diagnostic tests/treatment before they take place.  Our price list can be found here
All patients are responsible for the settlement of their accounts, as set out in our terms and conditions.  Payment can be made by cash (£ only), major credit cards and bacs transfers.

  • What if I have insurance?

Our clinic and most of our consultants are recognised by the major medical insurance companies. However, you may have a certain limit for the outpatient benefit per year, and so we would recommend that you check your entitlement with your insurance company prior to your appointment.
Patients with non-UK medical insurance policies will also be asked to pay on the day of treatment.

  • What if I am sponsored by an embassy or a corporate establishment?

Our invoice can be paid for by an embassy or a company, as long as we have an agreement in place with that particular embassy or company. Please note, very often the letter of guarantee will only specify one type of service that will be covered; if any additional tests or treatments are required, this letter may not cover them all.  If the letter is not available at the time of your appointment, we will ask you to make full payment on the day.

  • Do you see children at the clinic?

Yes, but we only see children age 13+ at the clinic.

  • Do you have parking facilities?

We do not have dedicated parking, but on the street parking is available at several locations near our location at 34 Great Titchfield Street.  The RingGo application is used to pay for on-street parking in this area, and to identify parking locations, such as on Wells Street and Margaret Street.
There is also a Q-Park car park situated underneath Cavendish Square Gardens (several minutes’ walk from us).  Please see its location here.

  • How can I make a comment/complaint?

If you would like to make a comment or a complaint, please see our Patient Feedback Form and our How to Make a Complaint information sheet for patients.

We would very much appreciate your feedback if you have visited the clinic. We value your comments, which help us to improve our service. Please consider completing our Patient Feedback Form.
