Dermatology
Diagnostic tests
Blood tests
There are several blood profiles which may be requested depending on the initial assessment by your dermatologist.
Here are some basic examples:
- Blood glucose and glycosylated haemoglobin detect and monitor diabetes, which may be of relevance in infection or skin diseases associated with metabolic syndrome.
- Renal, hepatic, thyroid and iron may be evaluated in patients with generalised pruritus, vasculitis or systemic symptoms.
Skin biopsies
A skin biopsy is a procedure to remove cells from the surface of your body. The sample is then sent to the histopathology laboratory for the analysis.
Skin swabs
A dry cotton swab is rubbed into the suspicious skin area and sent to the laboratory for analysis.
Scrapings
It enables both the full thickness of the epidermis and the contents of the hair follicles to be sampled
